Ok, so first of all , I have the same problem as here: Problems with nvidia drivers on Dell XPS

I know what is the problem, and that Bumblebee can solve this .

My question is : Do I have to install only Bumblebee, or first the video driver, and then Bumblebee?

What I did for my XPS 15 was the following.

  1. Remove the xorg.conf file. (This will make it fall back onto the free drivers)
  2. Add the ppa's required for Bumblebee. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:bumblebee/stable and sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
  3. sudo apt-get update
  4. sudo apt-get install bumblebee
  5. Follow instructions to add your user to the Bumblebee group.

Bumblebee automatically installs the drivers as dependency when using its PPA (which is the recommended installation method). For a background and installation instructions for Bumblebee, see How well do laptops with Nvidia Optimus work?

A guide to getting Oneiric working on Dell XPS17 is here. Basically, you want to boot your system with no NVidia Drivers, and then install Ironhide. The PPAs for IronHide installation are on the link above.
