i am a super noob, so super simple walkthrough would be appreciated

Most USB devices won't need to have drivers. I had a VERY old webcam. I lost the cd and couldn't get the drivers without getting a virus. I plugged it in to my Ubuntu system and it worked without drivers. If it does I would go to System/administration and hardware drivers. It should install all the drivers for you.
