Possible Duplicate:
Why are Flash applications so sluggish?

enter image description here

My flash player in Ubuntu 11.04 really sucks. When watching just about any youtube video, it will play ok for about a minute or less but then starts to jerk up a bit and slow down or freeze completely. Other times the video is black from the start but you can still hear sound playing, and a page refresh doesn't fix that. Full screen is out of the question.

The mouseover text in the xkcd joke leads me to believe some people have solved the same problem, and it must be a common problem. So what are some possible solutions I could try?

Currently I have to watch youtube in a windows virtual machine, which makes me sad.

  • flash version: 11,0,1,129
  • chromium version: 12.0.742.112 (90304)
  • firefox: 7.0.1
  • pci-e video NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 270.41.06 (8800GT?)

Are you using the proprietary nvidia driver?

You can check/install it via the program "Additional Drivers" app.

It says with a green circle: NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current) [Recommended] – wim Oct 13 '11 at 13:15
Then I can't see any reason why it would behave so badly, sorry. – Fraekkert Oct 14 '11 at 11:16
