I am running Ubuntu 10.10; Can anybody please provide instructions on how to download videos from YouTube?

You can use a python command line program youtube-dl

1.To install program youtube-dl type the following commands in your terminal

 $ sudo apt-get install python-pip
 $ sudo pip install --upgrade youtube_dl

2. To download youtube videos from terminal use

 $youtube-dl <video_url>

3.To see different quality and formats available use option -F .Then use the format code which will be shown after using option -F ,to download it in desired format.

$ youtube-dl -F <url>
$ youtube-dl -f <format_code> <url>

4.To download the whole playlist use

$ youtube-dl -citw <playlist_url>

5.To download the entire channel use

$ youtube-dl -citw ytuser:<channel_name>

I found something that is recent. Just get a Firefox addon for downloading Youtube video's. Firefox addons for downloading Youtube video's

You're unlikely to find a useful Chrome extension by searching the Chrome Store because enabling YouTube video download violates the store's Terms of Services. However, if you install the "YouTube Options" extension, you'll find a disabled download option which you can enable by installing the full version (obtainable from the developer's website by following the link in the crippled version's options). – Chan-Ho Suh Aug 19 '12 at 21:34
