Sometimes the cursor gets stuck, and after waiting for a few seconds,the system automatically reboots.

Sam - you should test out either 11.04 or 11.10 (beta) - both have much better sandy bridge support. Are you using nvidia drivers? if so which one? Are you using stock kernel or a different kernel? –  fossfreedom Sep 24 '11 at 15:40

Do you have the output of /var/log/Xorg.log - there will be a few of these with .(some number), look for one which was last written to shortly before the reboot, and post the output of tail -100 (log name). Do you have desktop effects enabled? –  Danny Staple Sep 24 '11 at 22:03
