Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've just installed Ubuntu, and I'm trying to get Unity working. When I start the computer, Ubuntu loads the classic mode, even though Unity is enabled in CompizConfig Settings Manager.

My video card supports Unity, since I could use it perfectly well when I was using Wubi.

If I go to the terminal and type unity, I get the following output:

unity-panel-service: no process found
Backend : gconf
Integration : true
Profile : unity

Segmentation fault

All of the windows open flash briefly, and titlebars disappear, as described here. I have searched the net for literally hours now, and I've come across other people who have had the same problem, but I have not yet been able to resolve it.

I would suggest filing this as a bug on Launchpad if it hasn't already been reported. Segmentation faults are programming errors and shouldn't occur. Once it's fixed there, it's fixed for (hopefully) everybody. –  WarriorIng64 Sep 6 '11 at 3:51

This question should instead be filed as a bug report, thanks! Instructions here. –  Jorge Castro Oct 14 '11 at 16:09
