I'm new to Ubuntu Linux. I have a Sony Vaio computer and am trying to get it connected to the Internet using an Ethernet cable. I'm able to connect a windows machine to the Internet using this cable, but am not able to figure out how to get my Ubuntu Linux computer to connect. There is something wrong with how my computer is configured. Please help! I use 10.04.

What is this "Internet" you speak of? What is on the other end of the cable from the Sony Vaio? What does the output of the ifconfig -a command show? – waltinator Oct 16 '11 at 1:16
Are you sure it isnt that easy at just rightclick at the "wireless internet" logo beside the clock, and click on wired connection.. It took me some days to find out of this i remember :) – Ted Nov 26 '11 at 10:33
