I followed the advice fixing "Partition table entries are not in disk order"problem and then used fdisk and df to find out the result. Now I'm confused that the ext4 partition is marked /dev/sda7 by fdisk ,but is marked /dev/sda9 by df. So how can I change the /etc/fstab to make the mountpoint right?

I haven't restart the computer yet since I'm afraid that would make the mount fail.Waiting for your help!!!

What is your root partition? As long as the root partition is specified correctly in grub and fstab, you should be fine. And by fine, I mean you can fix what you need to after the reboot. – djeikyb Aug 6 '11 at 6:42

While we're at it, please edit your question to include the output from both fdisk -l and df -Ph – djeikyb Aug 6 '11 at 6:43
Originally I put an image on it however it doesn't permit since I didn't have the privilege:-( my root partition is the only ext4. The system failed to restart since the grub info is wrong, however I know nothing about grub commands that I had to reinstall the system and the original image is lost. However I still wonder how this could happen. Many thanks. – Hongxu Chen Aug 7 '11 at 0:54
I'm not really sure. I don't know the circumstances of your problem. This email might shed some light though: mail-archive.com/grub-devel@gnu.org/msg02449.html – djeikyb Aug 7 '11 at 1:06
