Whenever I try to connect a screen to my laptop,
It will only work if i restart, and then only the external
screen will work, and not the laptop's screen itself.
I want to use it as Multiple screens but it doesn't seem to ever show
more than one screen (each switch requires a reset).

What graphics card do you have? It's a big issue here. Then, when you many changes to the Monitor Preferences, there is a setting to make your new changes as the default setting. – user4124 Aug 4 '11 at 10:02
