This is Vivek kumar.M From India. I had installed my acer laptop with Ubuntu 10.04. I love to switch to new Releasse of natty narwhal. I grab a copy of it. and i tried to install in my lap. The grub loads perfectly but after that The screen goes off.The i installed ubuntu 10.10 and upgraded the version the same problem arises. I recently grabed an copy of ubuntu 11.10 alpha 2 and try to install it. same thing happen. then i try to install fedora 15 live cd. it booted perfectly and i installed . same thing happen in fedora too some times the screen appears and most times it wont.. Then i come across all the thing in the operating system and found that there may be problem in the latest kernel. when i boot old ubuntu 10.10 or fedora 14 it has been perfectly working.

MY SYSTEM CONFIGURATION IS;

ACER 4736Z

INTEL PENTIUM PROCESSOR T4300

INTEL GMA 4500M

14.0 HD LEDLCD

3 GB HDD

ACER NPLIFETM 802.11b/g/DRAFT-N

It sounds like you may have a problem with the video drivers for X. What happens if you boot and do a Ctrl+Alt+1 to switch to tty 1 (a terminal window)? – jwernerny Jul 20 '11 at 15:20

Linux mint is an Ubuntu based distribution, you can have a look at these instructions here

A wild guess would be before you try to install the operating system to enable some extra modules for your graphics card.
