I have a laptop and just got a new LCD (Samsung 22" SA350 series). I connected my laptop to the new monitor using a VGA cable but it appears that Ubuntu doesn't detect it? It works in Windows. I noticed that the monitor will only get a signal once Windows is loaded though.

@Takkat, actually they are different problems. 1 is on my laptop where I try to use the same monitor, different inputs. Problem is Ubuntu doesnt seem to detect the new monitor. The other is Ubuntu detects the monitor but doesnt uses the entire screen –  Jiew Meng Jul 17 '11 at 9:45
