Anyone know how to disable the touchpad in Oneiric? In the "old-natty" days I'd just issue a gconf-edit/peripherals/touchpad/false command, but no such key exists in Oneiric. At least as of this writing.

I've scoured all gconf registry settings -- nada.

I've poked around the dconf registry and if it's there, I'm looking under the wrong rock.

Anyone? Note that I do not want to adjust sensitivity or any other such tweaks. I want to disable the darn thing completely like I could with the above setting in Natty.

Or perhaps this is a piece of the puzzle not finished/implemented yet?

TIA...

Perhaps your notebook has a shortcut for disabling it. Mine is at Fn + F1. – Lekensteyn Jun 28 '11 at 17:23
@Lekensteyn: Not that I'm aware of, but good thought. FWIW, the system is an HP-G62. Not only does it have the absolute worst keyboard I've ever used, it also has the schitziest touchpad. Ug. Which is why I only use it for testing. – Tom Jun 28 '11 at 17:41
I should add that I'm guessing there's an xconf hack that will do it, but I was looking for something simple and relatively regional to Oneiric that didn't necessitate a reboot or "underlying system mod". – Tom Jun 28 '11 at 17:44

According to this forum topic, you can disable the touchpad by quickly double-tapping the TouchPad off indicator which is located in the upper left corner of your touchpad.

Heh. The picture makes it look so easy... If anything, I provided some humor to my watching five-year-old. See Dad tap; see Dad tap more/in different places; see Dad "talk" to his computer... – Tom Jun 28 '11 at 18:22
Sorry, punch enter too quick. No joy Lekensteyn. Nice concept on the part of HP, though. – Tom Jun 28 '11 at 18:22
