Have you tried replacing the new, empty metadata.db by the old one? –  Jos Aug 3 '14 at 9:45
I'm new to ubuntu, but if it is any consolation,I copied the recovery backup to its original places.I also don't know how to copy the metadata.db to a new location,I do have sqliteman installed. –  user179732 Aug 3 '14 at 10:03
I meant simply copying the backup version over the new empty copy. Either with drag-and-drop in the Files manager, or a terminal command such as cp /path-to-backup/metadata.db /path-to-new-version/. And restart Banshee. –  Jos Aug 3 '14 at 11:05
