Is it possible to make OSD and subtitles work in audio-only files (mp3, flac etc.) that have a cover art image file?

I mean: the timing and other things of OSD, and the subtitles that I have in a srt file.

If I run mplayer foo.flac -osdlevel 2, the timing is shown but keeps frozen at 0:00:00 (while the audio goes on). If I add -sub foo.srt, nothing happens. In both cases, pause doesn't work.
