Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

It started about 40 days now. Every time I try to shutdown/restart this notebook, by command line or with the mouse, it freezes at splash screen, freezes showing a "wait-for-state" in like a console mode, OR it shows an eternal loading splash screen (but not responding to keyboard).

Which logs do I need to search to see if there is an app thats not being killed or whatever is happening?

I search over the inet but anything work, not the all variants of the shutdown command, nor modifying some lines on a file about killing processes or shutting down (sorry about this, not remember much more about it).

The only way to shut down the notebook is by pressing constantly the power button.

At splash screen press ESC key to see what is going on behind the scene. –  Nischay Jul 11 '14 at 5:28
It not respond, its like is freezed, but (almost always) the animation keep moving. Other times, its stopped, other all the screen is black but there are the 4-5 points of the animation, other its black with some information like: "wait-for-state" and a couple of words, and sometimes it has like 20 more lines of information. –  JackS Jul 20 '14 at 0:48
And sorry for the late response, I think that I was subscribed by email, but no. –  JackS Jul 20 '14 at 1:20
I tried pressing ESC immediately after the splash screen appears, and it works. I was without a cam to take a picture, but now that I ask a friend for his cellphone, this is what it looks like: (so Enter key post the comment, continuing in the next one) –  JackS Jul 31 '14 at 16:38
@Braiam continuing from previous comment Screen Screen2 Screen3 And it stays there forever. I trying formating and installing Lubuntu 14.04 again. It worked, it shutdown correctly, until I update the system (apt-get update / upgrade) and started to do it again. The exactly same. If I press ESC after "now will halt" appears, nothing happens, its like its frozen. But taking this pictures I notice that if I keep it there, the screen turn to black, like its saving power. Pressing ESC power it on again. –  JackS Jul 31 '14 at 16:59
