When I try,

user@user-OptiPlex-7010:~$ sudo apt-get install gcc 

I got response as,

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree       
Reading state information... Done
gcc is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

It shows gcc has been installed on your system.

Check by the following command,

gcc -v

in terminal.

If you got response as,

Using built-in specs.
