Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have OpenStack installed using DevStack on Ubuntu Server 12.04.

I want manually start/stop OpenStack's services like nova and cinder etc.

Here is the question where I asked how do I start/stop services and I was told that OpenStack services are not registered but are running...

My question is that How do I register services with OS while they are even running in the background. When I do ps -aux | grep nova, it shows nova-api and others too but I get Unrecognized service when I run service nova-api status.

Also there is no nova in /etc/init.d/ :(
