This question already has an answer here:

When trying to run software updater I am getting an error. Could this have anything to do with other ppas? My mom's computer at a different house is getting the same error along with a red "do not enter" sign and she said it said something about ppa. My internet is working normally. Here is the message I get.

Here is the failed part from terminal on my mom's computer after running SonOfEntropy's command. Does this ppa need to be removed to and will it effect her ability to use the canon printer? I can't remember if I added this ppa and ended up not needing it or if this is how I got the canon network printer working for them.

can you run this in terminal sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade and tell what is says. –  JohnnyEnglish Jun 2 at 21:35

I pasted the results into the original post. I am sure there is a better way to post them but I'm not familiar. It looks like it is not finding the packages for the ppas. Is this something I can correct or some type of server issue? –  xmjsilverx Jun 2 at 21:53

You see the last PPA happy-neko... it appears to be broken, seems like the client communicate with the server but the path to required destitation cannot be resolved. Because there's no TRUSTY distro listed, I'm assuming you've upgraded your distro. You'll have to purge that PPA.

sudo apt-add-repository --remove ppa:happy-neko/ps3mediaserver

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

sudo apt-get autoremove

Also, you can read this article for more information, I also recommend to use y-ppa-manager. –  JohnnyEnglish Jun 2 at 22:15

That worked for me but my mom's computer has similar issues. Also I guess I don't understand why it returned such things as amd64 packages 404 not found but after removing the happy-neko ppa it all seems good. Please review my original post, I added the errors from terminal after running sonofentropy's command on my mom's computer. I am guessing you are going to tell me I need to remove that ppa but they have been using that for the driver for their cannon network printer. Will removing that affect that or just affect updates? –  xmjsilverx Jun 3 at 1:18

In addition to the submission by JohnnyEnglish, in the future, you could run(from command line):

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -f install

The above updates sources and fixes damaged or missing packages.
