So I'm attempting to dual-boot OS X 10.8.5 (native OS) and Ubuntu 14.04. I installed Ubuntu (hooray!) but upon booting into Ubuntu I discovered I have no network connection from the OS. I'm very new to Linux.

I've noticed some similar posts, however the only "solution" I've seen so far is to screw the wireless connection and buy a USB-ethernet adapter. If I was using this computer at home that'd be fine. But this is in an office and it's WiFi only.

Is there anyway to get the wireless adapter to work?

Please do:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree

Reboot if it does not connect post a new file from the script.

No internet:

Download the b43updated.zip file to a usb flash drive then drag and drop the file to your ubuntu desktop. Right-click it and select Extract Here.

Open a terminal and do:

sudo mkdir /lib/firmware/b43
sudo cp Desktop/b43_updated.zip/* /lib/firmware/b43
sudo modprobe -rv b43
sudo modprobe -v b43

if it does not come on reboot.

Updated my answer to include direction to install without an internet connection. –  Wild Man May 21 at 22:21

That seems to have definitely done "something". I think it may be working actually, as I now have an option for "Create Hidden Wifi Connection" and "Connect to Hidden Wifi connection". Now, I I just need to figure out how to browse the available WiFi networks so I can connect to the office. Any chance you have any tips on that? –  tSquirrel May 21 at 23:53

Is your network hidden? in the upper right corner of the screen in network manager enable networking and enable wireless should be checked and in that same window you should see your network. If it is hidden you should unhide it at least until you get connected, but hidden networks are not more secure so there is really no reason to have one. If it still will not connect post a new file. –  Wild Man May 21 at 23:54

It shouldn't be hidden, it's there on OS X and I didn't have to do anything, even after a completely clean install of Mountain Lion. Plus, the location of our network is I should see about a dozen other WiFi networks, including some which are open. –  tSquirrel May 22 at 13:57

You are using ubuntu not lubuntu right? Post a new file from the script please. I will be out most of the day, possibly into the night. –  Wild Man May 22 at 14:08
