I just created a bootable usb stick following the instructions on the ubuntu site. Now when I mount it, and select check for errors, it says one error is found. Two thing:

the livecd you downloaded may be corrupted. please verify its md5 or sha hashes against those published by releases.ubuntu.com/trusty. –  sgx1 May 17 '14 at 8:20
The MD5 is what it's supposed to be –  user2520938 May 17 '14 at 8:23
Use Win32 Disk-Imager to create the bootable USB. Never had any issues with that. sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager –  Nehal J. Wani May 17 '14 at 8:25
