Nothing happens when I right click on the desktop area. I am unable to change the theme and when I take display settings only wallpaper settings is displayed. I upgraded to Gnome 3 of late. Now I have both Ubuntu Unity and Gnome 3 in the box

Upgrading to GNOME 3 may have been the issue -- it changes many core components of the desktop, and it's possible that the functionality broke between Unity, Nautilus, and/or GNOME 3. –  Jacob Peddicord May 28 '11 at 17:57
