Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

it's the 3rd time I had to reinstall Ubuntu cause after a few weeks, I get the message "Hard Disk Error Please run the Hard Disk Test". I installed 14.04 LTS 64bit first, 32bit now. Last unsuccessful attempt failed with an error on swap space partition 5 SCSII on dev/sda.

After many attempts, I managed installing it again, but I'm quite sure it will happen again the same thing cause during the installation I got the messages:

buffer i/o error on device sda logical block 2

and

error on device sda1 logical block

I guess it's the Hard Disk corrupted. Would the manual installation selecting the partition help or is there anything else I can do?

Sounds like a hardware problem, and is unlikely to have anything to do with Ubuntu. ...a reinstall won't help. –  mikewhatever Apr 19 at 11:59

my advice: get a new disk and ditch this one. –  Rinzwind Aug 15 at 14:54
