Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

When I load tmux, it goes straight into the #: prompt, and no aliases or nothing loads. I can barely even type regular commands like "source" because it says it's not found. However, when I execute /bin/bash manually, everything works perfectly fine.

I'm not sure why recently I started being put in this #: prompt. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

I think I know what's going on, but some clarification would help. Which user are you running tmux as? Have you set tmux set as the login shell for that user? Have you done any other custom tmux configuration? –  Mike Miller Jun 2 '14 at 19:28
