Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Having mucked up my system fairly... horridly, I just want to get my system back to a fresh install state, where I have absolutely no leftovers from my current state, including packages, configs, users, and so forth. Problem is, I just don't have a usb flash drive [etc] handy.

Any suggestions?

What about running this in terminal:

sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop

I personally wouldn't recommend this if it is possible. Largely because you're going to have random files everywhere anyway.

Got an android device? Try DriveDroid.

Not sure why this is downvoted. Most don't know about this application and as such is a viable solution if you have an android device, rooted, and ample storage for an ISO. –  Demortes Apr 8 at 6:56
