Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I installed Kubuntu desktop next to Ubuntu 13.10 (Still new at these things).
In the process I lost Skype and can't find a way to recover it. It won't run in either desktop. I have already tried this solution with no success.

If I start from the command line, I get this error.

user@ideapad:~$ skype
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
/usr/bin/skype: 3: exec: skype-bin: Permission denied

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Try starting Skype from terminal this way env LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /usr/bin/skype. Does it work? –  Mitch Apr 3 at 19:05

No, it gives me ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored. and then /usr/bin/skype: 3: exec: skype-bin: Permission denied –  Diego Apr 3 at 21:06
