Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm trying to install Ubuntu onto my SSD drive, which already has Windows 8.1 on it. I've created a bootable USB drive with Ubuntu 13.10 on by using unetbootin (I also tried tuxboot, but that didn't work either.

The problem is, when I try and boot into the USB to install Ubuntu, I immediately get the message: error: file /boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod not found.

It then puts me into grub rescue mode.

I've tried re downloading the Ubuntu ISO, reformatting the USB, recreating it.. But nothing seems to work.
