This question was marked as an exact duplicate of an existing question.

You'll need the LAME encoder and libav-tools:

sudo apt-get install lame libav-tools

And this command should do the rest:

youtube-dl -t -x --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 0 url

Flash Video Downloader - Full HD Download 571' is a free extension for Mozilla Firefox, and you can find it and install it by typing 'fvd' or 'flv download' in the search box for Get Add-ons in Firefox.

You can download any video from YouTube as it is, and after that you can extract audio or convert it to audio only using either WINFF application (it features very good presets for audio output, and video too) or other fast media converter that you like.

I like this method better because I can change audio settings to whatever I need, and also improve quality for the converted audio file.
