Ok, I am new to Ubuntu. Lightdm stopped working, so I pressed Ctrl + Alt + F1 to open up the graphical log in screen and typed in

sudo apt-get remove lightdm which worked but when I type

sudo apt-get install lightdm it goes like this

jackshaw@jackshaw-stormfly:/$ sudo apt-get install lightdm
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package lightdm is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source

E: Package 'lightdm' has no installation candidate

Thanks, any advice would be appreciated.

I have typed in cat /etc/apt/sources.list and the output was this

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-backports main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu precise-security main restricted universe multiverse
    deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu precise partner
    deb http://extras.ubuntu.com/ubuntu precise main

    # Now computing packages
    deb http://1Z7nT63H:W13VoN94@packages.nowcomputing.com/ubuntu precise multiverse

run sudo apt-get update and try again. –  G_P Mar 6 at 19:27

If that does not work, please add the output of cat /etc/apt/sources.list using paste.ubuntu.com –  Wilf Mar 6 at 19:35
