I'm trying to upgrade Ubuntu from 13.04 to 13.10.

Already I've done a partial update for current 13.04 system before upgrading it to Ubuntu 13.10. Then, I tried to upgrade it to 13.10. Meanwhile internet connection went off and it just went to a black screen. I had to do force shutdown and restart the system.

Now, from the Dash, through Software Updater, when I checked for updates, it just keeps on checking and after a long time, it shows checking has been finished. But that window keeps on showing and no upgrade window is being shown at all.

I did sudo apt-get update. Then also, no upgrade prompt is being shown to upgrade to 13.10. What to do now?

try this sudo do-release-upgrade command on terminal. –  Avinash Raj Mar 4 '14 at 8:14
Does that work if there are some issues with the currently installed version? –  Rajesh Omanakuttan Mar 4 '14 at 8:15
yes, it works. Before doing that, don't forget to backup important datas. –  Avinash Raj Mar 4 '14 at 8:17
