Try running

sudo apt-get update

This command updates the package list

Then doing

sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

This command upgrades your packages

Followed by

sudo apt-get -f install

This command fixes dependencies

sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop

This command installs the KDE desktop

downvote? why?? –  Whaaaaaat Apr 17 '14 at 3:49

You don't have to install kubuntu to install the kde - you can just type in the command-line:

sudo apt-get install plasma-desktop

The -1 wasn't me, but you might want to check the package name. –  Sparhawk Apr 8 '14 at 3:34
-1 also not me, but the OP wants to install kubuntu-desktop, plus you don't address the issues with broken packages. How will the OP install this package? –  chaskes Apr 8 '14 at 3:44
Suggesting a different way to get kde is an acceptable answer, but you should also explain why you think it's a good choice with pros and cons. –  chaskes Apr 8 '14 at 3:46
