Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

When I receive a mail in Evolution (ubuntu 11.04 natty), I don't get any mail notification about it in the messaging menu (it still shows for my 3 mails accounts "inbox: 0"). I'd like to know if it's a bug and it can be fixed or if it's just me. I used the integrated opera email for years but I like the way evolution is integrated into unity.

Apparently there's no other way just to have Evolution running (and minimized if you want to). That way I'm getting notifications, otherwise not.

Edit: before you minimize it, right click on the window border and select 'Always on Visible Workspace'.

I found a patched evolution-indicator, it's solves the problem completely. Here's the whole article: addictivetips.com/ubuntu-linux-tips/… Many thanks to the author! –  Matt May 25 '11 at 19:59

There is an option in 'Mail Preferences' to show 'Indicate new messages in the panel' - is that ticked?

To get there, go to Edit > Preferences > Mail Preferences.

noone? Well it seems that it's a commong bug if I'mnot mistaken. At least it would be nice if someone on natty can tell me that he doesn't have this issue. –  user17066 May 10 '11 at 6:35
