Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Last night I booted Ubuntu 12.04 from a USB, and selected the install alongside Windows 8 option. I'm able to boot Ubuntu now with no issues, however, now I cannot access Windows 8!

When I select the Windows 8 loader option, I get the following message:

error, unknown: "drivemap"
error, invalid efi file path

If anyone could guide me to a solution, that would be amazing.

Here's a small article by me that solves most of the dual boot problems: ranveeraggarwal.github.io/blog/ubuntu-windows-dual-boot –  Ranveer Feb 11 at 13:12

@Ranveer we have so many duplicates of this question and only slightly above mediocre quality answers. Directing people to your blog while not providing a good answer will sadly not help this site but make the situation worse. –  LiveWireBT Feb 22 at 10:11

@LiveWireBT the thing is that if I post it as an answer, it would be a dupe. Also, the dual booting problem has a common solution mostly. This blog post may or may not resolve the issue, but it's a start. –  Ranveer Feb 22 at 10:57

You should instead link the duplicate instead and suggest improvements there (that's how stack exchange is supposed to work, work on questions and improve ansewers here, right?). I just went through most of the cases with error message unknown command 'drivemap' and this issue as with most things windows-8 and uefi releated suffer from lack of support/activity. –  LiveWireBT Feb 22 at 11:05
