Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2750 that has 8 x 500GB HDD's. I performed a RAID-5 configuration through the BIOS, essentially leaving me with about 3.3TB of available disk space. I then installed Ubuntu Server 12.04.3 lts. When the installation was complete and the server rebooted, I received the below error message:

error: out of disk.
grub rescue>

I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing wrong, but I believe it has something to do with the way the partitions were created. When given the option for guided or manual partitioning, I chose guided due to my lack of knowledge on the subject. Is there something I should change with the partitions? Should I conduct a software RAID, as opposed to the hardware RAID? Any help would be appreciated.
