In my sound settings dialog box in systems settings I have only two chooses 1. digital output or 2. analog output.

You will see in the following answer that was given to another questioner there are four chooses, one that includes an HDMI setting. This box implies this is for the 12.04 OS which I have. How do I get this other sound setting dialog box?

I am trying to get sound to my Visio TV via an HDMI cable. I have a great picture but no sound.

If there is any other help full detailed information please help. I am a novice at this.

The four chooses are as follows

  1. HDMI/DisplayPort2

  2. Digital Output (S/PDIF)

  3. Headphones

  4. Analog Output

HDMI is a digit output. if it doesn't work, Ctrl+Alt+t, run pactl list short sinks and pactl stat, :) add their relsult to your QUESTION, not in COMMENT! Then Install pulse audio control sudo apt-get install pavucontrol –  Sneetsher Jan 27 at 10:26
