Well, by definition /etc/hosts isn't used for DNS lookups. What kind of hostname lookups are we talking about? Performed by what programs? –  andol Jan 2 at 5:26

actually its a hostfile named system.gaiamobile.org.Its used for launching firefox os in debug mode. I have already added this in /etc/hosts file and it should be ideally checked within the system and not by dns. –  user230858 Jan 2 at 5:57
