I have a Radeon HD 4670. It used to work really well with the 11.3 after tweaking with vsync to remove tearing.

After updating to Natty, I tried to install the new 11.4 driver, but it always seems like only the ati control center front end is working. So I tried to build a deb package from the script, and ends up with this error message and no deb file.

Installation complete.

Ok, so when you have installed it in a standard way(not by using a package), what was wrong? Did it install at all? Any error messages? What was the result? Did, after reboot after instalation, the X server start? –  Rafał Cieślak May 3 '11 at 18:54

When I install it using the ATI script, in both Maverick and Natty, there is no error message. Just Installation complete. However when I reboot, all the Compiz effects becomes unavailable (and not switch to have effect in Appearance in Maverick). Though X server works fine. –  hansioux May 4 '11 at 1:36

If you run lsmod after reboot, is there a module "fglrx" listed? –  Rafał Cieślak May 4 '11 at 17:20

yes. other than a bunch of sandy bridge, it says:fglrx 2739144 158 –  hansioux May 4 '11 at 19:00

though this is after purging 11.04, and using the default proprietary driver in Natty. –  hansioux May 4 '11 at 19:09
