I've converted Lubuntu to Kubuntu by installing kubuntu-desktop. After do-release-upgrade I removed the remains of Lubuntu using the following command:

I don't know why, but this also removed every package installed with KDE. Everything was fine after reinstalling kubuntu-desktop, but it seems still strange to me.

Why did this happen?

What ubuntu release were you usint at the time? – xangua Dec 28 '13 at 20:03
I've installed Lubuntu Raring, installed kubuntu-desktop, upgraded to Saucy and used the command given. – the_Seppi Dec 28 '13 at 20:14
The --auto-remove probably did it. I always recommend doing that separately so nothing unexpected gets removed. – Seth Jan 13 '14 at 19:43
