Why doesn"t Unity work with Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS ?

This GPU supports Windows 7 Aero very well .

I have tried to install Nvidia driver version 270.41.06 , but

the installer requests to disable the Nouveau driver first How to do that ?

Unity has nothing to do with Windows Aero, so if one is supported, it doesn't mean the other is as well. Can you add the output of /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p to the question. –  mikewhatever Sep 26 '12 at 4:41

GeForce 8400M GS

After an update (update-manager) stored videos from hard disk played in a blue tone, yet my flash player could handle videos from YouTube.

Changing from ; to

  • Nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 173)

  • Nvidia accelerated graphics driver (current version) [recommended]

Result : Normal colors in playback from smplayer, but 12.04 crashes frequently.

Changed back to former driver again showed the same "blue" playback of my stored videos. Running SMPlayer version : 0.7

FIX: Update to SMPlayer version 0.81

Open terminal and enter:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rvm/smplayer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install smplayer smtube smplayer-themes

My 12.04 is running stable now on "Nvidia accelerated graphics driver (version 173)" with SMPlayer Version: 0.8.1 Using Qt 4.8.1 (compiled with Qt 4.8.1).

Maybe this is a similiar problem like mentioned here (with a workaround): Geforce Go 7300/7400 blacklisted, can I still run Unity?
