Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm trying to install ubuntu on an old macbook (2008 model) and have followed the instructions on http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-mac-osx. This however when I insert this USB in the macbook and press alt it only shows the harddisk as an available boot. I have already tested this usb as a live usb on my new HP laptop and that worked fine, however my macbook does not recognize it.

I hope I'm in the right place as this is a bit of a cross site question (could also be asked on ask differently).
