I'm trying to give my Ubuntu-based desktop internet from my Windows-based desktop, but it seems to be refusing the connection.
I can successfully connect to the internet by directly plugging it into the router (it's not in an area I can keep the desktop 24/7 like I need it to be), but it refuses to use my Windows connection, and it doesn't even show up (on Windows) as being connected.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? (I've confirmed that both Ethernet ports are not damaged, and that the cable works fine as well.)

Note: Windows XP and Ubuntu Server are the computers.

It is not fully clear, where your problem is, so I will walk along from layer to layer ;)

Does your Ubuntu Computer actually say "Auth Eth0 connected" (something similair in /var/log/dmesg). This means that connectivity on low-level basis (undamaged cable and exchanging of ethernet-frames) is possible. After that you will have to assign IP addresses to both your computers manually, I suppose. Windows usually won't hand out IPs to your Ubuntu PC.

Please note that I have no experience sharing an internet connection with windows for a Linux host, but I will assume that this will work like any routing/NATing would.
