How do I use steam on ubuntu?

I have the icon on the desktop but when i click it, it shows this window "package install" and then asks for a password but then doesn't let me type in anything. Then when I close the window it reports the following error:

Try with : sudo apt-get install libc6-i386 or sudo apt-get install libc6-x32 –  user224082 Dec 22 '13 at 10:06
maybe you can reinstall it from the ubuntu software center (type "software center" in the dash). How did you first install it? –  Mina Michael Dec 22 '13 at 11:46
Try typing the password and hitting enter, it is likely that it will not "respond" to typing because is security reasons, but is still listening for password. (System password not steam password) –  Mateo_ Dec 22 '13 at 12:54
