Question is kind of nonsense... "can I install software on a machine that doesn't support it"... of course not... on the other hand, I'm almost certain that a core2duo is in fact, a 64 bit processor. –  psusi Dec 14 '13 at 1:03

No, you cannot install a 64bit operating system onto a 32bit system.

There is a 32bit version of Ubuntu if you need:

Are you sure your cpu is 32bit? You didn't list a model #, but these are the 2.20ghz core2duo's I found on the intel website: E4500, T7500. Both are 64bit –  mango Dec 14 '13 at 1:05

To find out if your cpu is 32bit or 64bit type in terminal="sudo lshw -C cpu" –  mango Dec 14 '13 at 1:09
