Ubuntu 13.04

I am trying to follow these instructions here http://sevabot-skype-bot.readthedocs.org/en/latest/ubuntu.html#installing-sevabot

I cannot get this virtualenv to work..... ive tried a few suggestions here / irc @ #ubuntu with no luck....

http://privatepaste.com/269057399f

this site shows the same issue im having http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19339509/python-virtualenv-new-python-executable-in-venv-bin-python

how do i correct it?

Edit:

I've tried

# python virtualenv.py --extra-search-dir virtualenv_support venv
New python executable in venv/bin/python
Cannot find sdist setuptools-*.tar.gz
Cannot find sdist pip-*.tar.gz

Then I tried

# sudo apt-get install python-pip
Reading package lists... Done

python-pip is already the newest version.

Ok, lets do one thing. Remove everything related with that step and try again, but this time copy all the output you get and paste it here. –  Braiam Dec 12 '13 at 19:01

This can happen when you are not installing virtualenv/python using distribution packaging system. You might want to download files in https://github.com/pypa/virtualenv/tree/develop/virtualenv_support and run virtualenv with --extra-search-dir virtualenv_support

This is also explained here: http://www.virtualenv.org/en/latest/#environment-variables-and-configuration-files.

So, to install them use:

sudo apt-get install python-pip

The boring attempts:

➜ ~ python virtualenv.py vvv-venv
New python executable in vvv-venv/bin/python
Cannot find sdist setuptools-*.tar.gz
Cannot find sdist pip-*.tar.gz ## Darn, what a bummer
➜ ~ . vvv-venv/bin/activate
(vvv-venv)➜ ~ sudo apt-get install python-pip
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following extra packages will be installed:
  gcc
Suggested packages:
  gcc-multilib automake1.9 gcc-doc
Recommended packages:
  build-essential python-dev-all
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  gcc python-pip
