I've tried installing col on Ubuntu Linux:

sudo apt-get install col

but I get the error:

E: Couldn't find package col

What's the best way to install col on Ubuntu?

This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers.

The col command is provided by the bsdmainutils package, so:

sudo apt-get install bsdmainutils

In the future, you can install apt-file to find out what package provides a given file. – IanNorton Apr 30 '11 at 21:58

When I run sudo apt-get install bsdutils it says bsdutils is already the newest version but I still can't use the col command. Are you sure it's part of this package? – sferik Apr 30 '11 at 22:18

@sferik Used to be bsdutils. Evidently it changed packages to bsdmainutils. – arussell84 Apr 30 '11 at 22:26
