I accidentally purge Ubuntu-desktop package like so (log file)

Commandline: apt-get purge nvidia-* Purge: ubuntu-desktop:i386
(1.267.1), nvidia-common:i386 (0.2.44.2) End-Date: 2013-11-15
10:13:50

Start-Date: 2013-11-15 10:18:43 Commandline: apt-get install
nvidia-current-updates Install: nvidia-settings-304-updates:i386
(304.88-0ubuntu0.0.3, automatic), nvidia-current-updates:i386
(304.88-0ubuntu0.0.3), dkms:i386 (2.2.0.3-1ubuntu3.1,$ End-Date:
2013-11-15 10:20:18

Now when I try to sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop, there is a bunch of unmet dependencies. apt-get -f install does not solve it.

And those dependencies are? What is the output of sudo apt-get check? –  Braiam Nov 15 '13 at 21:43

it seems like my -f install fails because of this E: Could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock. I just killed the APT process running in the background -- we'll see how it goes. –  Anh Nov 15 '13 at 21:49

well, then sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock and try again. –  thom Nov 16 '13 at 0:26
