I have a computer (Power Mac G4) and the CD/DVD drive doesn't work. So that means that I cannot boot from the Ubuntu live CD. I cannot boot from a USB drive, either. How would I be able to install Ubuntu? The CD drive was working but said "seek-error" on the screen, in red letters. |

The power mac g4 has a power-pc so you must use something like 8.04 for to make it work, any newer version doesn't support them. The latest version is this one, http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ports/releases/hardy/release/ The server version is still on LTS until 2012! I installed the server version on my power mac g3. |

Is it possibe that you can take out the hard drive and put it in a similar machine, then install it? Putting it in a completely different machine probably wont work. Or, can you try a different (or USB) Optical Drive? |

I fixed my optical drive with compressed air. |
