Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've installed Ubuntu Server 12.10 on my Dell SC1425 to work just with command prompts and no more: the use of this machine is to convert videos and upload them to Amazon Web Services via a shell script.

I've noticed the system seems to... hang after a certain amount of time and it's woke up only by pressing some keys on the keyboard causing nasty delays on the uploading process. Is there a way to avoid this? I don't care for energy or whatsoever; I just want the server only to be always up and running at full capacity and speed.

Have I to deal with ACPI or something like these?

Thanks to all the kind replies.
