I'm getting a black screen when trying to install from live-USB I have increased the brightness as suggested in some other answers and was able to see the ubuntu logo and once that is done loading I'm again presented with a black screen. I'm totally new to ubuntu and so I want someone to help me with a step by step guide on how to install ubuntu on my laptop. I'm trying to install ubuntu 13.10 so plz some one help me.

Use the nomodeset parameter to boot the installation:

You should do the same for booting the OS for the first time as well, once it is installed. Then install nvidia-319 or try using the Intel GPU and Bumblebee.

For the installation, allow the Legacy boot mode and use that. (I would suggest not to try using UEFI because you'll have quite some trouble.)
