I tried to send a 2mg photo using Evolution and got this error message:

Failed to append to local `Sent' folder: Cannot append message to mbox
file: /home/chris/.evolution/mail/local/Sent:
File too large

Have never had this before, how do resolve the problem?

What Evolution version are you using? –  Mitch Oct 26 '13 at 12:53

and on which filesystem (find out by running mount)? Can you also do a ls -l /home/chris/.evolution/mail/local/Sent? –  Frederick Nord Oct 26 '13 at 13:41

Related: Using evolution in Ubuntu comes up with this error when I send mail / Problem in Evolution @ Ubuntu 12.04 LTS / evolution error: mbox sent folder invalid URI (EDIT: only related, there it's no size issue; missed that on my first check) –  Izzy Oct 27 '13 at 16:33

Chrissie: While checking for the file system, can you also check the size of that file? Furthermore: How many messages are stored in there (maybe it could help splitting up and archiving some of them)? –  Izzy Oct 27 '13 at 16:37
