I am using a Samsung laptop which had Windows 8 pre-installed. It has a UEFI motherboard and secure boot. It also has a hybrid hard drive, so it has a 20GB SSD for the OS as well as an HDD. I have made a Windows 8 USB drive and everything says it installs fine, although it never boots up (I can view the Windows partition from an Ubuntu live USB).

Please give more details -- "it never boots up" doesn't tell us anything about what you've done, what boot menus you see (GRUB, the firmware's built-in boot manager, etc.), or what error messages or other displays you see. Also, posting a link to the RESULTS.txt file of a Boot Info Script run would likely be helpful. –  Rod Smith Oct 24 '13 at 18:01
